QAM/Steam buttons unresponsive after per game power settings on Legion Go S

  • SteamOS version: 3.7.15

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

This on a Legion Go S 16 gb/512 gb. As I set per game profiles in the Performance QAM menu, the QAM button and Steam button start to become unresponsive. They work intermittently to pull up the menus. Sometimes it seems they don't work at all. It does seem as I have more games with per game profiles, the buttons get more unresponsive. I remove all the per game settings and the buttons work again normally.

Not sure if related, but in settings -> Controller -> Non-game controller layouts, doing edit gave an error screen. I reset the controller layout to default and the edit screen worked again. The QAM and Steam button problem still remained but possibly was a bit better. The issue was only completely fixed by removing all per game performance settings.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Set per game power settings on a few games (on a Legion Go S). I enabled VRR globally and only changed TDP limits per game.
  2. Test the QAM button in Steam and in game. Test the Steam button.
  3. Keep using or increase the number of games using per game settings.

Can you grab a SteamOS system report once it starts happening via Settings -> System -> Advanced -> System Report -> Create Report? I tried setting game profile TDP limits for 10 games on my Go S and so far it's been okay. Will keep trying and add a few more as well.

Unfortunately not repeating right now. Restored the games back to per game settings. Will keep trying.

I know at least one other reddit user on r/LegionGo who had the same issue. He clued me in to the fact that it is related to the per game settings. He said he learned it from other people on the subreddit.

there is also a bug on steamos stable where sometimes the per-game settings do not get applied properly when entering/leaving games, could also be that it got stuck on a lower TDP from one of the profiles for a time? unless you were only setting very high TDP limits.

I think the lowest I went was 8 watts. but mostly I was setting between 10 to 15 watts. It started to happen intermittently at first. At first I didn't think much of it because I found that the QAM button would sometimes not work even after a fresh install of steamOS. After a few attempts, the menu would show up. I just assumed it was still coming out of sleep or something. At some point, it was really hard to get the QAM menu to show up. through patience I was able to turn off per game settings on the 5 or so games I had it set. then it was like night and day.

I will try setting a game or two to 8 watts and see what happens.

Hmm interesting. Did not see that ticket. I think I have done that too inthis adventure. I am pretty sure the issue did get immediately better after I was able to remove all per game settings. But right now I am not able to repeat it. Even with low tdp limits. Sorry

Played a game with Geforce Now. Geforce now had a per game 10 watt tdp limit. QAM button stopped working at some point during the game. Worked maybe 1 in 10 tries out of game.

I will try to turn off the per game settings now. but it takes some doing with out the qam button. Unless there is an easier way. I also have to go to a doctors appt.\

i see some fragment of your system report, please try without any third-party modifications like Decky Loader as well as a test. modifications like that can cause many random issues so it's always a good step to eliminate that as a factor first.

I have the same problem. I am not sure if it is from HW or SW bug. Happens quite often. Usually after swapping performance profile (mostly from custom to/from other mode), the entire UI freeze, but the game is still running.and I can higher or lower the screen brightness and audio level through the short cut key. I have to wait for the OS to reset itself back to the home page or sometimes nothing happens. I have to force shutdown the machine.

Also having the same issues. Seems to happen when switching performance modes in the QAM during gameplay most often. No inputs are read, only fix is a forced shutdown.

This happens to me when I have the FPS counter on and trying to switch performance profiles a few times. The QAM get's stuck while it closes. Everything becomes unresponsive. But if you wait 1-2 Minutes everything operates again. Forced Shutdown is not needed. This also happens on Legion Go S and the Legion Go 1.
