hibernation does not work

hibernation does not work in desktop mode. In game mode there is no option to switch to hibernation at all. My Oled discharges in a few days in sleep mode and when I want to use it I find it completely discharged.

Currently hibernation doesn't work because of two main things:

  • hardware problems when hibernating
  • insufficient space for hibernation

Both are being worked on, but it may take quite a while until this is really supported (read: months, likely not ready for the next 3.8 stable release even).

Some examples of hardware problems when hibernating are that the wifi card stops (or stopped) working until the system was rebooted, or at least the drivers reloaded, so not much use in hibernating if then one has to reboot. This is just an example, there might be other problems.

If you want to try, you can resize the swapfile to a size that fits (8GB at least, probably more is needed, like 12-16GB) and try your luck, but I really advise against it because it's very likely that it doesn't work for the moment even with the latest images from Main, and it could cause the equivalent of system crashes and break the system in unexpected ways.

For the moment and your use case, inconvenient as it is, it's really better to shut down if unused for days, or accept the problem of the discharge (maybe leave it charging while sleeping, if possible).
