Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen.

Go S / Z1E / 32gb / 1tb / official SteamOS variant

Upon exiting games (It Takes Two, Palia, for example) it seems as though they are not being "handed off" properly and I am getting elevated CPU temps (spikes of up to 83c), increased CPU usage (particularly CPU10 or 11 on the performance overlay showing 100%), and high fan speeds for a long time after exiting (the temps and fans ramp higher than they do during gameplay)… this seems to go on indefinitely and doesn’t seem like normal behaviour.. going back to the home menu and using the device after this results in random temp reads and constantly ramping fans, quickly going from 58c to 77c for example, over and over. Restarting the device instantly fixes it, temps, usage, and fans back to idle, and temps read ~33c with no fan ramping using game mode.

Noticed really bad stuttering on the game mode Home Screen today after exiting Stardew Valley (which is not an intense game at all, runs 60fps at 5W) and was only getting 50-60fps instead of the usual 120 - also had increased CPU usage.

Edit: Rolled back to 3.7.8 this morning and this is still happening 😩

Edit 2: this behaviour doesn’t happen when launching games from desktop mode, everything goes back to idle straight away - seems this bug may be isolated to game mode ☺️

Edit 3: Tried setting the low-power profile via QAM for Steam game mode (using custom profiles on a per-game basis) and this seems to prevent the behaviour - sitting at 49c on game exit. 'Balanced' profile still produces the behaviour, however it’s less hot than the custom profile (67c instead of 80c) In game my temps usually read no higher than 65c. 'Performance' profile has the same behaviour as 'custom' despite my custom profile having a 15W tdp limit for game mode 🤷‍♀️

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run game from game mode
  2. Play for a couple minutes
  3. Exit game back to game mode, either from steam overlay or game menu
