SteamOS updates BIOS even if I blocked BIOS updates

I have one of those crashing steam decks that need to be on BIOS version 116 for it to work properly. (and I live in a region where i can't easily RMA my steam deck) The kind of steam deck that was discussed in #1257

Because of that, I would like to block any kind of BIOS update on my steam deck. However, using methods like the command "sudo systemctl mask jupiter-biosupdate.service" dont work. SteamOS just ignores it and installs the new BIOS version anyway.

I'm wondering if that is actually intended or is it a bug? also, is there any way to block bios updates for real?

I'm thinking about installing another linux distro, like ubuntu or mint, just to not have my BIOS updated all the time. I'd love to keep using steamOS, tho.

The latest bios should have the option needed to disable ram power management to stop your deck from crashing.

That service you are masking isn’t used to update the bios. What you want is to actually edit the bios update script. It is called jupiter-bios-update IIRC.

But ideally the new bios should have the features needed you need to get things working properly.
