Btop, the Resource monitor application, is missing from the Application Menu after updating SteamOS to 3.7.8

  • Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The application was present in the Applications Menu, but after the update of SteamOS 3.7.8 it's gone.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

Compare the Menu from the previous release with the current one.

You are right, a couple of terminal only apps are hidden from the menu, as there's a lot that don't make sense for an end user.

To bring it back:

ln -s /usr/share/applications/btop.desktop .local/share/applications/

Yes, as David said this was hidden recently (so, for 3.7) to keep consistency with other similar apps that were already hidden in the menus before.

To bring it back:

ln -s /usr/share/applications/btop.desktop .local/share/applications/

You probably know that, but just in case and if more people stumble upon this:

Executing the command above is a one-time thing and will survive upgrades -- as long as the package continues to be shipped in the base system (there are no plans to drop it) and it doesn't change names, etc. So should work for a long time/"forever".
