Request: add tdp control in desktop mode

Open Michael290525 opened this issue 7 months ago • 4 comments

It would be nice to have hardware managing features, witch gaming mode provides, in desktop mode. I used to have plugin for that, but it is outdated now due to kde 6 update. And seems like creator of that plugin don't planing to update it.

Hello @Michael290525, this is probably a project that should be developed independently from SteamOS.

you can do this via commandline with steamosctl set-tdp-limit <limit> or steamosctl get-tdp-limit to check the current limit fwiw. steamosctl lists all possible commands.

What about the GPU clock issue in desktop mode (as of 3.6 and below)? It is capped at 1 GHz if gaming mode is set to Auto. If you manually set it to a number e.g 1.6 GHz, then that fixed # will transfer over to desktop mode, but then stays locked at that number.

Is there a reason why the GPU clock in desktop mode can't also be auto going up to 1.6 GHz?

This is helpful, thank you. Guess, i stick to use them for now.
