Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible: updated steamOS to 3.7.8 stable and was immediately met with no audio. This issue existed in the beta channel as well.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Restarted steam deck
  2. Clicked on the audio icon to see if I was muted
  3. Went to sound settings to see if anything was muted
  4. opened steam, played a trailer, and checked if chromium was muted

Same issue here on LE OLED. No connection to PulseAudio or Pipe wire server.

Same issue.
Steps taken:

  1. in desktop mode,
  2. sound settings,
  3. tried Pro Audio and Digital Stereo settings

nothing worked.

Update: Workaround: I set the microphone to SOF Vangogh, then set the speaker to none and it defaulted the speaker to Vangogh.

Sounds is working now.

Can you go into to more detail in your workaround? You said you set speaker to "none" do you mean off? When I do that it shows everything is off

In desktop mode, I went to System Settings->Sound->Playback Devices. At first, I did not see SOF Vangogh as an option, I only saw 'Pro Audio' and 'Digital Stereo' options. I tried switching between them and no sound could be heard. Then, I messed with the Recording Devices (mic) and I saw SOF Vangogh as an option and set the mic to that. After that, I set the Playback Devices to 'none' or 'Off', and then the option for SOF Vangogh popped up. I set it to that and sound started working again.

To be clear, this is a workaround and the OS should NOT have to go through these steps to 'work.' I have not tested if fix persists after restarting.
Personally, I think this is a fluke, but if it helps someone get sound back, go for it.

Weird. I’ve been seeing the SOF Vangogh option and switching between the two doesn’t do anything for me. Only thing that works is pro audio compressor 1.

The drawback is that every boot in gaming mode requires me to go to audio settings and switch to speakers. And the audio buttons don’t do anything even though it shows it is on screen. I have to switch to desktop to turn it down.
