[Steam Deck] Can't connect to wifi: "no secrets were provided"

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
When ever I'm ~5 meter away from my router I'm having problems connecting to my wifi. If I place the Deck next to the router I have no problem connecting.
When I connect through the Steam Deck UI it asks me to re-enter the password like if it was wrong. When I connect through the desktop I'm getting the error "no secrets were provided" popping up.
I have an Asus RT-AC2900 and running Smart Connect, meaning 2.4GHz and 5GHz uses the same SSID and the router decided if the device should get 2.4 or 5GHz.
The 2.4GHz run on both 20 and 40MHz and on channel 1 5GHz runs 20, 40 and 80MHz on channel 52
I followed these steps: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/997#issuecomment-1642579600 to create some debug logs and have sent them your way. My steam username is: utjduo
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Be more than 5 meters away from your router
- Start the steam deck
- Try to connect to the wifi
Just did some more testing and tested the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi separated. Both still gives me problems. I have tried changing the channel, channel bandwith, password but the Deck just don't want to connect.
Hey @utjduo
It looks like we didn't receive your system report. There is currently a bug where the system report uploader will not show an error on failure. Therefore, if wifi is disconnected the report will silently fail.
Can you try submitting the report again after reconnecting to wifi?
I have tried changing the channel, channel bandwith, password but the Deck just don't want to connect.
Small note: this bug is unrelated to passwords. When there is an error during the wifi security handshake the OS produces the same error code as if there was an invalid password. So the error message that is shown is misleading. In your case the problem is most likely the same as #997 where the steamdeck and the AP are not communicating properly for some reason.
@lostgoat Oh, sorry. I tried submittig again. Hopefully my old data got submitted with it. If not I'll re-do my tests with the debug-logging available.
@utjduo Sorry for the inconvenience, but I don't see any system reports for that account. I'm guessing that the system failed to upload them.
I've submitted a fix for that bug so that steam will correctly show an error when the upload fails, which will be part of the next beta.
Once that is released we can try again.
Hey @utjduo,
In today's beta update there are some fixes for the system report upload. It should now correctly report an error if it failed to upload.
Also, I added an option save the report as a file to the desktop, because as it has been pointed out copy to clipboard is not very useful in game mode.
Got home today and could update my steam deck, redoing the problem and submitting the logs. I also saved them on my desk so if you still don't get them I could send it to you directly some how
Just want to see if you got the logs or not @lostgoat Else I'll send them again.
In case anyone is interested, I got around this error and managed to get WiFi working.
I described the procedure that worked for me in this comment.
