[TF2] SteamNetworkingSockets's error and it's impact to performance

Open Underfitty opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

[SteamNetworkingSockets] SDR network config fetch attempt #1 failed. HTTP 504. . Trying again. [SteamNetworkingSockets] SteamNetworkingSockets lock held for 55.4ms. (Performance warning.) ServiceThread,SteamDatagramClientThinker::Think,EnsureDataCenterRoutesValid(x2),ThinkPingProbes,CreateServerDataForCluster,BInternalGetPingLocation,NotifySteamEngineGotLocationString,RelayNetworkStatusChanged This is usually a symptom of a general performance problem such as thread starvation. [SteamNetworkingSockets] Waited 54.8ms for SteamNetworkingSockets lock

I've been a long time player for awhile now and this is the first time i saw these errors in the console. I've checked reddit and other forums relating to tf2, dota and csgo and i have seen people with the same problem giving out different solutions, all i've tried but none of them fixed it.

The error popping up about the networkingsockets waiting seemed to cause sudden frame drops to the game. The forum posts said that it was generally a PC related issue on my side, but my PC was able to run more Performance heavy games at 30+ fps. The errors only showed up last month.

I had the same issue with TF2 running under void linux. I don't get this issue with any other game. If you haven't found a solution yet, perhaps this will work:

spr_spew_level 0 net_drop_sendoverflow 1

Frankly I haven't researched what these commands actually do, but it solved my issue completely. My game no longer microstutters either. I put them into my autoexec file.

spr_spew level 0

Added ConVar "sdr_spew_level" for clients and servers to control SteamNetworkingSockets console spew. Default is 4 (warning). Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/pqb6j2/tf2_update_for_91721_91821_utc/

Regarding the other command, I was not able to find anything official about it or any information at all.

Oh hey, I used to have the same problems too. Turn out, it was just because I have Cloudfare Warp turned on.

Try turning it off if you have it :)
