[All Source Games] replace Bink Video codec with WebM video codec
In the years since the release of the Orange Box branch, the Bink Video codec used for the Source engine has been plauged with many issues on many hardware configurations, including audio problems and framerate issues.
Shouldn't be time to replace the Bink Video codec with the WebM video codec? The WebM codec offers better performance on many low-end and high end hardware, increased framerates, offers lower file sizes, and being easier to author. And the part of it all, it is royalty-free.
Currently, it's only used in the Strate Source engine branch, so I wish for Valve to replace the aging Bink Video codec with the modern WebM video codec.
Hello @Wadmodder, in a quick search of this issue tracker, I'm not seeing any open issues being blamed on Bink, which makes this a weak request to replace something that isn't broken.
