Symptoms

The game will either complain about some missing files (that definitely exist, BTW; I've run the verify process multiple times):

Or just straight-up crash without even attempting to play the logos or display the menu screen.

Reproduction

First, use Experimental. I decided to use that one because ProtonDB seemed to be frequently recommending it. Second, one of the steps I tried was installing the dependencies for the game manually through Protontricks (as opposed to letting Steamworks install them). Third, when you launch and log the game, look for the line "fork without exec" at the end of the log file. I'm not sure exactly what causes this, but it seems to happen almost every time I launch the game.
