Symptoms
Upon completing the game (defeating the final boss), after the credits finish, the game crashes before post-game sequences can start. (Which is a problem for me)
Other than that (not sure if it's a DXVK/VKD3D issue), but after regular battles complete and experience points start to accumulate (and if new magic skills are learned), character models flicker invisible for a few frames (seems longer than a single frame).
Reproduction
(For the post-game progress blocker)
- Reach the end of the game (final boss area called the "Terminus")
- Defeat the final boss (easier said than done)
- Wait for the cutscenes and subsequent credits to finish
- Game crashes
@ThisNekoGuy could you share a save file for the game?
In-game, it's save file 15 (save file 16 has a star on the right, I think; I managed to work around the crash with GE-Proton, but I can't say I know what's specific to vanilla Proton 10 that GE-10-4 does differently)
To clarify further, this issue was also reproduced with Vanilla Proton 10 on a Steam Deck
@ThisNekoGuy well, managed to beat the boss, unfortunately I got no crash after several attempts. Tried on my desktop and deck. So just to be sure, in what part does it crash for you? When you get the emperor summary? Or during the bar scene?
I want to focus on the steam deck for now, as it eliminates variables. What steamos version are you using? Did you change the default graphics setting? Mods? Any errors if you run sudo dmesg after the crash?
At the start of the emperor summary; it was there for about 2 seconds, then the game threw an error window
Also, as for the Steam Deck, it was done on my brother's and he's since had updates on his Deck, so I could get that I for for you but it wouldn't be accurate as to back when the error happened (for him in particular, he said he didn't even make it to the emperor summary)
@ThisNekoGuy are you saying that your brother's deck doesn't crash anymore, or just that it hasn't been tested? Are you both playing on hard mode? I was originally attempting to defeat the boss like that, as that's how your save file was set up, but I changed it after I learned there was a setting for it. I wouldn't expect the difficulty to affect this crash, but assuming the deck still crashes, I'd appreciate an attempt with easy just to rule it out as a factor
We both did it on hard (classic) mod, and my brother hasn't tried it again since he beat it the first time back before the Deck updates
