Symptoms

When the game launches, this window shows up:

And then the in-game videos do not seem to play. When I start a new game, it shows a empty screen with a finish button, and nothing happens.

Reproduction

Start the game.

This log is from the game engine itself, has some interesting errors.

I think this is something to do with wmp9 stuff, there's another game that is supposed to be on the same engine (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/You_Are_Empty#Intro_videos_and_cutscenes_do_not_work). Installing the installer there did not help though, but the same basic error.
