Based on the existing protondb reports this may be an AMD/mesa issue.

Reproduction

Start a new game, issue is immediatly present.

Can't reproduce with same GPU, mesa 21.3.1 and Proton-6.3-8. Tried the game and the demo.

Flatpak Steam (mesa 21.3.1 on 21.3.2 host)

Fedora 35 rpm Steam (mesa 21.3.2)

@hakzsam if it's not too much hassle. Can you give flatpak steam a short test run to confirm it being flatpak-specific?

Mershl avatar Dec 31 '21 10:12 Mershl

@Mershl Are you still able to reproduce with latest Mesa?

hakzsam avatar Apr 27 '22 15:04 hakzsam

Hi @hakzsam,

The issue is still reproducible on a clean installation of Fedora Silverblue 36 (same hardware). Cleaned the prefix (compatdata) beforehand, reset all graphic settings, just to make sure.

Flatpak Steam (mesa 21.3.8 on 22.0.1 host)

The issue is still not reproducible on rpm Steam.

Mershl avatar Apr 27 '22 17:04 Mershl

This is unlikely a RADV issue then?

hakzsam avatar Apr 27 '22 17:04 hakzsam

As it is not reproducible on rpm Steam with the last 4 mesa releases - I don't think so. I think this is a Flatpak Steam issue with a flatpak provided library or feature going wrong.

PS.: @hakzsam if you have a flatpak-capable system available, can you please try to reproduce it on your machine, just to be sure.

Mershl avatar Apr 27 '22 17:04 Mershl

Sorry, I don't.

hakzsam avatar Apr 27 '22 17:04 hakzsam

Is this still an issue, I cannot reproduce it?

I can still reproduce the issue on two Fedora 37 machines.

@Shished Can you tell us a bit more about your system? Did you use the demo or full version of the game?

Host: Arch Linux Flatpak 1.15.3 Latest 22.08 runtime Proton 7.0-6 Demo version of the game

Shished avatar Mar 08 '23 17:03 Shished

I've updated Flatpak to 1.15.3 without success regarding this issue. ~~Though I noticed some GStreamer warnings in the Proton log of this game. @Shished Can you please post the output of flatpak list --runtime?~~ Tested with every Proton or Proton derivate and while the GStreamer warning are gone the issue is not. As is does not seem to affect Arch Host Flatpak this might really be a Flatpak issue itself.

Mershl avatar Mar 08 '23 19:03 Mershl

I've installed Steam from Flatpak on Ubuntu 22.04, and it plays the survivalist fine with Proton Experimental (I actually didn't try other versions). The system installed Steam wouldn't even launch The Survivalists regardless of what runtime I used.

Also reproducible on my system (AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X), Nobara 42 KDE Wayland, Mesa 25.3.0-devel

However, it works fine in my Linux Mint 22.1 installation (Cinnamon, X11) on the same hardware. Even same game files

rastla avatar Aug 24 '25 06:08 rastla

@rastla do you mean the character being invisible? can you upload a proton log?

simifor avatar Aug 26 '25 15:08 simifor
