Note the ntlm_auth bit - I do have ntlm_auth:
cheaterman@cmans-laptop ~ $ ntlm_auth -V
Version 4.12.9
Symptoms
Game crashes to desktop about one second into the Ubisoft intro video. It used to work on previous 5.13 release.
Reproduction
Install the game, start it on Proton 5.13-4. Do note I already disabled Steam overlay for this game as others have reported conflicts. I disabled Uplay overlay as well.
Hello @Cheaterman, this looks like a line of interest from the log: [1211/174928.064:ERROR:mf_helpers.cc(14)] Error in dxva_video_decode_accelerator_win.cc on line 379
Thanks a lot for your answer @kisak-valve - but to be honest I'm not quite sure I can act upon it, AIUI dxva is a DirectX video decoding API, like vaapi/vdpau here on Linux? It sure would explain why the game crashes while playing the intro video, but do you think there are packages I should install on my system to help address this?
Okay, FWIW I get the exact same issue with 5.0-10 so I suspect there is indeed something wrong with my system somehow.
Good news - sort of : the game works after rebooting my machine. Likely nothing to do with the game or Proton itself, more of an issue with vaapi/vdpau/nvidia and (I suspect) s2ram or general DPM.
EDIT: (And as usual, I nuked my profile in the process, losing my savegame. Bad habits die hard, haha.)
FYI: One mission in this game breaks, if the FPS is >60 (The mission with Leonardo's Flying Machine). FPS>60 cause the physics to break.
This can be fixed by setting the following launch options: DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
When trying to launch the game with Proton 7.0-4 or Proton Experimental (2022/09/30) it hangs on the Ubisoft Launcher "Update checking" window. Tried to set PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1
, but not success. The only solution was to add the parameter -playoffline
.
Specs:
- O.S: Arch Linux
- Kernel: 5.19.13
- GPU: RX 6700 XT 12 GB (Mesa 22.1.7)
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 -> 4.4
Logs: steam-48190.tar.gz
Game still hangs on Ubisoft launcher update for Proton 8.0-1 as well (only works using the parameter described above).

The launcher defunct and no longer updates.
Using -playoffline
no longer works, ubisoft connect is needed.
