[Dota Matchmaking] Game disconnects whilst starting match-making
If steam has been running for a while and/or the computer has been put to sleep/lock and it has been woken-up, if you open DotA and start match-making, it always starts the game but it fails to enter the select hero screen. You have to force close DotA 2 and re-launch it.

Don't trust the sleep/wake mechanism, there are issues on windows too. It's not DotA related. (yes, even if you'll swear you played 2-3 games where this doesn't happen). On Windows there are issues even on browsers and at a point it even fails to initiate the network stack, so your networkless (and Internetless).
This is dependent on how many times you did the Sleep/Wake cycle on Windows, but I do suspect it's similar on MacOS. I suggest after or so cycles to actually do a full restart. Trust me, it's safer. You might get all kinds of weird behaviors. And yes, I am aware Windows is not MacOS, but so far, your description sounds 1:1 to my experiences.
Folks - again, I tried to match make and I fell into this issue and now I'm banned from searching for a game for 1 hour.......Completely ruined my night.
For no fault of my own. I even quickly restarted Dota + Steam twice but it still wouldn't work and I fell into the "abandoning match"....
But you didn't answer regarding my point. Was your computer restarted in the last 2-5 days? Not DOTA or Steam.
