Game won't launch on Steam Deck

Your system information

  • System information from steam: Gist link
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Are you using the latest stable video driver available for your system? Yes
  • Have you verified the game files?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Since the latest Road to TI/Compendium update, DotA is not launching on my Steam Deck in Gamescope or Desktop mode. In game mode it says Launching Executable, the steam icon appears and it goes back to the game details screen, on Desktop mode the screen goes black but returns to desktop before either the Dota logo appears or the cursor changes to the in-game version. Tried Proton 7.0-6, Proton 8.0-3 and Experimental, same results. Only thing that worked was to select Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout) or turn off Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. This comes with its own host of issues, degraded performance, visual bugs and frequent freezes/crashes in game.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run latest version of Dota 2 on Steam Deck via Steam Play
  2. Crashes on launch

From a little bit of searching I found a recent reddit thread where other people on Deck seem to have the same problem, although only 2 people have commented on it. I have tried verifying the game files and ensured client and OS are up to date. I hope this is the right place and I've provided adequate info in the proper fashion, I'm new here and if any more info or logs are required please tell me how and I'll be happy to provide.
