[Linux] Sudden fps drop after 15min

Open kaiserprogrammer opened this issue 7 years ago • 19 comments

(about 2 months ago till today patch 7.00) fps drops after 15 min of watching/playing every game. Restarting dota seems to mitigate the issue with matches going as long as 60 minutes ~~without needing a second restart~~ (Happened twice in a game).

Options Very High/Low same issue.

On Very High dota is running at 110fps. When this phenomenon occurs it induces a penalty on input events. Moving mouse or pressing keys drops fps to 50. No Input Events still result in a steady 100fps, but no gameplay is possible.

Hello @kaiserprogrammer, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

If you run with -con_logfile and see the slowdown we may see something useful in the log. Also, if you could bring up the in-game console and type vulkan_pipelinemgr_print and vulkan_memmgr_print it would be good to see that in the log as well. The log is located in game/dota/console.log.

One of the updates since new year resolved the issue.

Happened again during the last match, probably one of the last patches reintroduced this issue.

I have the same issue. (as does at least one other player I know using Vulkan on Linux). Sys Info Console Log from a bot match where FPS died at ~36mins

This seems to be fixed again with the last update. I finished several games without any issues now.

Just tested it, it still happens.

I'm having the same problem just now, restarting dota every 15 minutes becomes very annoying

Also affected. Running gtx 870m on arch

edit: This could be a Nvidia driver specific issue unless someone on AMD can confirm they have same issue

If anyone is having this problem try this: Right Click Dota 2 in Library > Properties > Enable The Steam Overlay While In-Game

No idea why this works but it fixed it for me

@entwwwicklung boop

i just gave up... it's just ridiculous, wasted a lot of time... i can only play now with some bellow average fps when using opengl. When using vulkan it crashes on hero selection.

@AlmightyFloppyFish @danginsburg can confirm this fix, missing overlay seems to be the issue

kaiserprogrammer avatar Aug 02 '18 08:08 kaiserprogrammer

linux mint here can confirm on both, 16:9, also 21:9 850M, 390.48, no extras, raw sauce

This happens to me on native games like Shadow Of Mordor (vulkan beta), and proton games with DXVK like dishonored and mirror's edge. It's around 40 minutes for me. Also, keyboard input is fine, I just cannot move my mouse or the view stick on a controller. I only tested the controller in shadow of mordor though.

xbox 360 controller and logitech G403 mouse, however it also does it with a random mouse i had laying around.

I have a nvidia gtx 1050 (prop drivers version 440), intel pentium g4560, and 8G ram.

Sounds like I'm at the mercy of nvidia's drivers :/

My system wasn't overheating nor was the cpu/gpu/ram usage maxed out.

Also the steam overlay won't work in those games, so I can't exactly enable that and see if that fixes it.

Edit: to be clear, I cannot subject myself to 40 minutes of playing with a controller, so the tests with the other mouse/controller were after playing for 40 mins with my G403, instead of on a clean slate.
