# Start the platform in the background volttron -vv -l volttron.log

when i start volttron in background it give the following error volttron

That is typically a mismatch between the user who installed the platform and the user that is trying to run it. Check the permissions on your VOLTTRON home

Should we provide a better error message or is this a non-issue?

This happens often enough it would be good to generate a useful error message. "Current user does not have permission to work with VOLTTRON_HOME" or something similar.
