Translations for GUI

Open el97 opened this issue 1 year ago • 14 comments

Hi! I have noticed that there is no option for different languages. I think it would be appreciated if the GUI supports more languages so more people can interact and understand how the energy is consumed.

Describe the solution you'd like I would like to see an option for different languages. I'm willing to help out with a Swedish translation as well!

Additional context Your work is fantastic and really helps me out when it comes to energy consumption.

A good idea indeed! We have talked about this, but not prioritized it yet. Will be higher on the list once we get v2.3.x out (which is hopefully next week). And implementing multi-language in a sufficiently flexible way - so that adding new languages is easy - will require a bit of time.

Here is a test version with translations. Please note:

  • This is a development build. Only flash this if you know how to erase and flash official version.
  • Upgrading from a previous test version may cause problems, erase flash recommended.
  • Back up config before proceeding.
  • Vanilla ESP32 image has become too large with the latest build and is not included here. Will fix before final release

Install firmware, go to config, open dropdown for "Language", choose "Load from server" and wait for it to update before selecting language and saving.

Only English and Norwegian is available for now. If you fancy providing us with translations, we use Localazy: https://localazy.com/p/amsleser

@Noschvie : Thank you for your effort in translation to German! I have reviewed the translations, and approved all of them except a few. Could you be so kind as to reconsider these? (I might have adjusted some of them while reviewing...)

@Noschvie : Thank you for your update! Two comments:

  • For (MQTT) "Publish topic" you propose "Topic für Veröffentlichung". I am wondering whether this should be translated at all, as "Publish topic" is a term I think most MQTT users will be familiar with. Do you have any way of checking if this is commonly translated in Germany, or if the English term is used? EDIT, In case you are not familiar with MQTT: There are two very common English terms when communicating with an MQTT broker: the "Subscribe topic" and the "Publish topic". As our devices never request data from the broker (only send to it), we do not use the term "Subscribe topic". The "Publish topic" is the "tag" added to the message that allows other devices (for instance a smarthome system like Home Assistant) connected to the MQTT broker to receive those messages. They do that by "subscribing" to the same topic. In practical terms they signal that in the "Subscribe topic" configuration they use when connecting to the MQTT broker.

  • "Current IDX": I changed the translation to "Strom IDX"; do you agree?

ArnieO avatar Jan 24 '24 10:01 ArnieO

done and ready for review:

  • "Current IDX" -> "Stromstärke IDX"
  • "Publish topic" -> "Topic" (it's clear in the context of MQTT)

Noschvie avatar Jan 24 '24 12:01 Noschvie

  • "Current IDX" -> "Stromstärke IDX" OK! 👍
  • "Topic" (it's clear in the context of MQTT) If we go for English here, I think we should use "Publish topic", ref what I wrote above?

Y-a-t-il un vrai francophone ici qui pourrait relire ma tentative de traduction? https://localazy.com/p/amsleser
