Add serial model

Good thing to have when comparing with other parallel programming models, mostly for syntax. This also makes us consistent with CloverLeaf, TeaLeaf, and miniBUDE. Closes #190 .

LGTM, but we'll wait for #186. I think resolving the conflicts with this will be faster than the other way around.

@tom91136 may make sense to rebase this on top of #188. It may make sense to also use intptr_t here for consistency.
