There should be a "Find all references" option when you right-click an asset in the asset list - it should show you all the assets that use this asset. For example, when you click that for sprite, then it should show you a list of all references to it. Also, there should be some kind of filter for this, so it will not show all the references at once.

It will probably require a lot of code, but I think that it will worth it.
