Support Structures Generated as Short Orthographic Lines Instead of Smooth Lines

Open wwmotorsport opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Cura Version

5.6.0

Operating System

Windows 10

Printer

Modix Big180X

Reproduction steps

  1. Import cube into slicer
  2. Rotate about X and Y axis by 30°
  3. Slice with support and interface layers in zig-zag mode

Issue also reported in the Ultimaker Forum, linked below: https://community.ultimaker.com/topic/44675-some-support-lines-segments-are-generated-from-dozens-of-microscopic-segments-with-added-vibration/#comment-329798

Actual results

Support structures generate with large numbers of very short, orthographic line segments with pauses between them which creates large vibration in the printer when running

Cube - 2 Axis Rotate G-Code Analyser - 2 Axis Rotate Detail

Expected results

The supports should be generated in smooth lines along angled trajectories instead of jagged lines in orthographic directions.

Here is an example from Prusa Slicer: Prusa Cube - 2 Axis Rotate

Thanks for the report. I have noticed this in my own prints so I can confirm this behavior. I have not been able to "tune it out" of my prints.

The Cura team will take a look.

Just wanted to check in here. Any update on a resolution for this bug?

I ran a print the other day where this still occurred in 5.7.2. There was another report regarding this behavior and members of the Cura team commented so they are aware of it. What priority they may have assigned to this I have no idea.
