Use existing tools to change plot layers and themes

The ggedit package from Metrum RG (https://github.com/metrumresearchgroup/ggedit) may be useful to control plot layers and themes once the main aesthetics of the plots have been defined.

Thanks for the suggestion I will look into those. They look like a great addition for a shiny app
