Hello, I am a hackthoberfest contributer and would like to do translation in hindi

Girlwithasmile avatar Sep 27 '22 11:09 Girlwithasmile

@Girlwithasmile this is fantastic ! If this is the first time you contribute may be you should read some guides here https://hacktoberfest.com/participation/ .

Anyway, this is a quick guide: you have to fork the UPC/ravada repository, then edit the file lib/Ravada/I18N/hi.po . You should add there new strings you can find in the file lib/Ravada/I18N/en.po . For example: I see looking at the bottom of the en.po file the line "Monitoring". This one is missing in the hi.po file. Add it there and translate it to hindi . I google translated it , so excuse me, probably it is not correct:

msgid "Monitoring"
msgstr "निगरानी"

When you are done, submit a Pull Request from the github web page.

Well, that was probably a lot of information, please go ahead and ask if you get stuck.

Hey, just need to know do I have to keep some English words as it is like computer or shall I translate it?

Girlwithasmile avatar Sep 27 '22 15:09 Girlwithasmile

Good question. I would say yes, if there is a word that can be translated to your language, do it. Though sometimes it may look too academic. Recently we received a great contribution in ru.po and I think they translated everything. Anyway it is up to you to decide.

@frankiejol just in case you don't know: you have to add hacktoberfest-accepted instead of only hacktoberfest to the PR if you don't want to merge before the end of October and it is a valid PR. But there is still plenty of time, so no rush. Just in case people rely on the PR count

Hello @asfahrefajd , we received a Franch translation recently so it should be up to date. There is always room to improve, so if you want to take a quick look at the strings file here it is a direct link:

https://github.com/UPC/ravada/blob/develop/lib/Ravada/I18N/fr.po

Merci !
