[335] Entangling Roots "Break Early" Check Is Backward

Open MrSmite opened this issue 11 years ago • 7 comments

Core: c28345e DB: TDB_full_335.52 + updates

Bug:

Entangling Roots consistently breaks early based on lower level mobs which is inconsistent to how "break early" checks are done.

Details:

According to patch 2.0.1 notes on Wowwiki - Entangling Roots

The chance increases with resistances and the level difference between the target and the caster.

This should work in such a way that the higher level the target, the higher chance it has of breaking CC early. In the case of Entangling Roots, it works the opposite in that the lower the level of the target, the earlier the roots break.

Notes:

I tested using a level 9 Druid on the following creatures:

Defias Thug - lvl 3 and 4 - Roots breaks after 2 ticks 100% of the time, tested 20 NPCs Rockhide Boar - lvl 7 - Roots breaks after 3 ticks 100% of the time, tested 20 NPCs Rockhide Boar - lvl 8 - Roots lasts the full 4 ticks, tested 25 NPCs Defias Bandit - lvl 9 - Roots lasts the full 4 ticks, tested 25 NPCs Young Forest Bear - lvl 9 - Roots lasts the full 4 ticks, tested 25 NPCs

Edit 2014-07-14:

To clarify: If a level 9 Druid roots a level 11 NPC it should have a higher chance of breaking early whereas if the same level 9 Druid roots a level 4 NPC it should have less chance of breaking early.

FYI: This is still present in https://github.com/TrinityCore/TrinityCore/commit/974703671ed5f08ec0c1a5b3943fc68508f2f4d6

With a level 8 Druid casting on a level 6 mob, the roots always last 3 ticks. The full amount should be 4 ticks and it's unlikely that all mobs would have the same resist results.

hold up, so Blizzard really made entangling roots stronger against higher level targets? That's super weird

i couldnt find any code that makes root break early (except on damage taken), are you sure you arent imagining things?

Shauren avatar Jan 23 '23 08:01 Shauren

the spellinfo has a proc chance of 100 so either it breaks right away or blizz really did use some internal proc count so that's something that should be tested on wotlk classic

The proc doesn't immediately break the aura but modifies value (then if no value remains, aura breaks)
