In latest versions of Tribler, all unicode characters in file/directory names are replaced with ..

Example: テスト123.txt -> ...123.txt

That is odd. I checked out a random Japanese-looking torrent and the characters render fine for me (not sure what this torrent actually is, hopefully censored enough):

This might be a browser issue. Could you check out https://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/3066/browsertest.htm and see if everything displays properly? It should look like this:

Tribler’s UI has no issues and displays torrent info correctly. The problem occurs with directory and file names actually written to the file system.

I tested several cases and found no unicode issues outside, and Tribler v8.1.0-2-gca74bf6a6 or earlier versions don’t have this problem.

I also tried a few torrents thinking it might be a specific uploader’s fault but all characters, except English and some special characters (probably ANSI), including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc., get replaced with dots.

I checked the container logs, but there were too many INFO messages, and ERROR and WARNING messages were just tracker connection failure warnings.

Thanks for the clarification. I misunderstood your problem then.

I think your issue is related to our inner torrent protocol library (called libtorrent), which we updated after the version that works for you. That is also the part of Tribler that actually writes files to your disk.

After a quick (technical) Google search, I can't find similar issues. So, we'll have to do a "deep dive" on this ourselves.
