Bug/inconsistent experience with resizing a column

Sometimes the resizing of columns acts different. Here are two examples, the first part where it's in "normal" model -- how it usually works, and the second where it seems to be in quirks mode or something: https://gyazo.com/d9e91c9d498eaf8d8260f85e8f9f1c50.

To be honest I've had a difficult time trying to figure out the conditions when it enters into the second mode for how to reproduce it (and I'll continue trying to figure it out), but sometimes it does occur and it seems like a bug that should be prevented.
