Feature request: Reordering of Ingredients inside a recipe
What's the feature 🧐
Currently, KitchenOwl displays the ingredients of a recipe in alphabetical order. While this is systematic, it can reduce the readability and usability of recipes in practice. Most cooking instructions mention ingredients in a specific order that reflects the actual cooking process (e.g., order of preparation, grouping of steps). An alphabetical list disrupts this natural flow and may confuse users, especially during cooking when clarity and speed are important.
An example: When cooking the first thing I do is probably sautéing onions. The german word for onions is "Zwiebeln" which starts with Z so it probably is the last shown ingredient. I often just glimpse at the ingredients when cooking so in the worst case I might overlook the onions. So i think it would be more natural if the onions were in the first position of the ingredients.
Proposed Solution:
-
Manual Ordering Allow users to manually reorder the list of ingredients in the recipe editor, so they can match the sequence in which the ingredients are used in the description.
-
Automatic Natural Order Alternatively, KitchenOwl could offer an option to automatically order the ingredients in the sequence they first appear in the recipe instructions. This would improve the consistency between the ingredient list and the steps, enhancing user experience.
PS: I really like the app. Keep up the great work :)

I agree, alphabetical is the last way ingredients should be listed. Almost all of my breadmaker recipes begin something like "Add the ingredients in the order listed…"
