use a friendly irc nickname, preferably a registered one

Current nick I see being used is Not-e6e6 which is not very beautiful. If you could register notifico or somethign similar would be even better (freenode).

indeed it seems that the Not-XXX username is coming from 440b525e397a544a5f551d432af415f79f0900df

Is there an existing way to customize the prefix to use?

I would like to be able to set the base prefix like mynotificio then if it's used you can use it as a base with a random number _mynotificio_XXXX ?

Keep in mind the random names stemmed from people sniping the names, and using nickserv was out of the question due to the sheer amount of networks it connects to. https://github.com/TkTech/notifico/issues/66

What about a standard name representing the service?

@atoomic IRC_NICKNAME in the configuration if you are hosting it yourself will change the prefix.

As @SinZ163 mentioned, there are technical and manpower issues with getting registered accounts everywhere. As-is Notifico works without any special casing on any IRC network. Notifico also has to connect multiple times because of limits set by the network for the number of joined channels per connection and per IP (CHANLIMIT in message 005) which we cannot do with a single name.

Most network services support setting flags for IPs, which relax these limitations or fix the connecting client to a particular nick. Freenode was doing this for awhile with Notifico, but it does sometimes break or gets removed by another sysop that doesn't know why that rule is there. If notifico having an inconsistent nick is causing issues for you, you can easily self-host or ask your network to flag it.

@TkTech I really appreciate the work you are doing on notifico and rely on it to postnotification from several open-source projects. Maybe you could run another smaller instance with registered account only for sponsors? I would likely be willing to donate a little bit just for the convenience of not having to run an instance myself. I did run one at some time but it got lost during a storage outage I had at some point with my homelab.
