Not possible to upgrade from 2.6.2 (+ missing documentation)

Open dietmarw opened this issue 12 years ago • 4 comments

Hi trying to upgrade my 2.6.2 TW via backstage I ran into a "Error with the new core code" issue. OK fine so I guess I need to do it differently. Problem is that the instructions given in the upgrade box point to a non-existing page.

Note that core upgrades have been known to interfere with older plugins. If you run into problems with the upgraded file, see http://www.tiddlywiki.org/wiki/CoreUpgrades

Only http://www.tiddlywiki.org/wiki/CoreUpgrades forwards now to the TiddlySpace page http://tiddlywiki.org/#CoreUpgrades where that anchor does not exist either. Continuing my search for that page I tried http://oldwiki.tiddlywiki.org/wiki/ only to find that even there no CoreUpgrades pages exists. Now a user (well me at least) is stuck. For the sake of backward-compatibility those pages should be created/resurrected so that one can at least execute such a minor upgrade from 2.6.2 to 2.6.5.

Just a small comment, in the end I managed to upgrade following the old procedure: save empty.html, open empty.html, import all from old tw file, reload. That didn't cause any problems which means there was nothing wrong with one of the plugins I'm using. So perhaps giving a redirect to http://www.tiddlywiki.com/#HowToUpgradeOlderTiddlyWikis and changing the text there to say that those instructions might also work in case a coreupgrade via backstage fails, might be very helpful indeed.

this is a documentation issue. improvements in the "HowToUpgrade" information will be provided.

@YakovL , not sure if you've seen this issue, but the current Lingo.js still has a link to the old wiki.

I did review the issue. -- It's still valid

.. especially the last comment https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/TiddlyWiki/issues/98#issuecomment-593131246, which adds a new issue.
