[Bug] Clipboard image synchronization fails between host and container

Open CIS-C0 opened this issue 2 months ago • 5 comments

What version of WinBoat are you running?

v0.8.7

Your Environment

System Details Host OS: Arch Linux (all packages up-to-date) Desktop Environment: GNOME Windowing System: Wayland Winboat Version: Latest

Steps to Reproduce / Context

On the Arch Linux host, take a screenshot and copy the resulting image to the system clipboard. Open an application within the Winboat container that accepts image pasting (e.g., Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Paint). Attempt to paste the clipboard contents (e.g., using Ctrl+V or the right-click "Paste" context menu).

There appears to be a bug with clipboard synchronization for images when running Winboat on an Arch Linux system using the GNOME desktop environment with Wayland.

When an image is copied to the host clipboard (e.g., from a screenshot), attempting to paste it inside a containerized application (like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop) fails. Instead of pasting the image, the operation either does nothing or pastes the most recent text entry from the clipboard history.

Additional Context This feature is essential for many common workflows, especially for productivity and creative applications like the Office suite and Adobe products. Full image synchronization between the host clipboard and the container would be a significant improvement. Thank you for your work on this project.

Logs

.

Expected Behavior

The image copied on the host system should be successfully pasted into the application running inside the container.

Current Behavior

One of two incorrect behaviors occurs: Nothing is pasted. The last item in the clipboard history that was text is pasted, ignoring the more recent image.

Could this be a Wayland specific bug?

I can try to get KDE X11 on a VM and try. I'm not sure if this would fix anything. I'll report back within the next 3 days

I can confirm something similar happened on fedora for me. For me the image was placed, but empty (it was just the image icon you also get in when your browser/... can't load an image.)

Same for me. I'm using Winboat 0.9.0 and Zorin OS (not wayland. it's Xorg/x11)
