[GTA2] Quick Save bug (Player stuck under the ground when loading save)
There is a pretty nasty bug that is caused by the Quick Save feature, Sometimes if you save too close to a Mission phone or a building. Loading the save next time will put you below the ground stuck forever. This is a Hardlock with no way to fix it and you have to start a new game all over again. I've tried older and newer builds of the widescreen patch in the past and this issue still hasn't been fixed. Even more surprising that no one else has brought this up.
Any idea what is causing this issue and is there any way to fix this?
(Ignore the minimap mod on the bottom left, this issue has been present in the vanilla game version 9.6 and v11.44, The version in the screenshot is 9.6)

It doesn't save at the exact location the player was on, I think that's also how the game's native save works, the mod just mimics it. Unfortunately, you just have to be very careful on where you save.
On a side note, can you link the minimap mod you are using?
Well I hope we can find a fix to this issue soon, maybe a message preventing the player to save if they're standing on a position that could bug out or something.
As for the mods used: User _AG on GTAForums recently released some pretty impressive mods for GTA2 FrontendFix (Restored console UI, scaling etc)https://gtaforums.com/topic/989464-frontendfix-for-gta2/#comment-1072118909 GTA3 Radar backport: https://gtaforums.com/topic/989465-gta2-radar-backport-from-gta3/#comment-1072110032
For now, the only workaround I found was to play the game in debug mode as seen here: https://tcrf.net/Grand_Theft_Auto_2_(Windows) If the glitch happens you can just teleport back to the street.
I have found the root cause of this bug (I think). When you normally save by walking into the church, the game does not save your exact location but rather pushes it downwards so that when you load the game, you're standing outside the church rather than inside. This same behavior is in place when you're quicksaving, thus if you save with an obstruction (like a building) right down (south) of you, the game would place you inside that building the next time you load. Obviously it can't do that and as such spawns you below the ground stuck.
The position I saved in:
The position the game places me when I load the same save:
