Hack to plot 3D block data

Open qarth opened this issue 8 years ago • 1 comments

Hi I'm clueless about minecraft, but I was wondering if it could solve a real world mining problem. I want to plot what's called a block model of geological data as used by mining engineers (like myself) see http://www.scielo.org.za/img/revistas/jsaimm/v116n7/09f03.jpg for example. Do you think its possible to use minecraft to achieve this ?

Thanks

I don't know how you managed to find this project (its a 3rd party client for minecraft, that hardly does more then render the world), but yes, minecraft would be able to visualize your data with ease. you just have to know that there are some limitations:

  • minecraft has a limited and predefined set of blocks (altho you can change the looks of them)
  • the max world height is 256 blocks
  • every block has the same size

for better communication I suggest you joining the irc channel of one of the most active server communities, which can give you way more insights, you can reach the webchat here http://irc.spi.gt/iris/?nick=&channels=spigot , or join #spigot @ irc.spi.gt using your own irc client tell them I send them, so that you ping me :D
