venturabocker not being delivered as app

Open MehdiYawari opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

I didnt know where to write about this important infomation, that's why here I am. As far as I know, this venturablocker will not work this year. As macOS Ventura is a delta update which will not be delivered as an app. And this venturablocker detects the installer app when it is launched. As there is no app to be launched, nothing will be blocked.

this is not an issue but a clarification

Yes, I heard that, too.

In a nutshell, ventura can get installed by either of 2 methods:

  1. "Install macOS Ventura.app" (the traditional macos upgrade method, which venturablocker does indeed block)
  2. Direct software update, a new method that can not be deferred more than 30 or 90 days.

Thus far, nowhere on internet do I find way any way at all to stop method 2 for more than 90 days. Sites explain the 12.6.1 upgrade may be required for the 90-day MDM deferral to work.

For good overview see "How can I prevent users from upgrading to macOS Ventura?" https://unlimited.ethz.ch/display/idclientdelivery/2022/10/13/When+and+how+to+upgrade+to+macOS+Ventura

Thus their short answer: "There is now no way to defer Ventura upgrades for over 90 days."

Clock started ticking with The first release of ventura on Monday Oct 24, 2022 (2022-10-24).

So for non-managed macs, the maximum delay may be only 30 days. That is, Venturaa can only be delayed for 30 days until Wednesday, November 23, 2022. (2022-11-23)

For managed macs: Using MDM you can block ventura for 90 days until Sunday, January 22, 2023 (2023-01-22)

This is totally correct, I leave this issue open for everyone to read it.

Ventura is more secure than Monterey! Apple has now officially said it. Upgrades are coming within 90 days. So the beta cycle is more important than ever to test the new stuff.
