Feature: Add a guard-like option for planes that will target nothing

Open FireRainV opened this issue 8 months ago • 5 comments

Basically having them rotate in the air like in guard mode, but they won't attack anything. This is so you won't be able to abuse auroras with scaffolds and have them hurt their own base and not get annoyed with MiGs attacking supply planes.

Extra points: If you have Retaliation enabled, if the planes are under attack, they'll attack the attacking unit automatically.

Idea on how to do that: Basically, if you tell them to move somewhere, they will stay there, they won't return back to their airfield after a couple of seconds unless you press the stop button.

There is a proposal that does work with retail game:

Just remove idle return, like in PR above and that's it. No need to re-invent the wheel.

Many will dislike that change though, the argument is that it eliminates a part of skillful management, like protecting chinooks in an air mirror.

Perhaps have a survey. My expectation is that more than 50% of players would be interested in exploring changing this.

An alternative here would be also to increase the auto return time, instead of removing it entirely. 10 seconds is a relatively short time.

That might be more acceptable.

That said, it might even be necessary to preserve a quality air mirror, because if we both nerf pdl's and make chinooks expensive, chinook hunting makes the games very short. Or air nooks need some special air armor or something.
