Introduction: What is NodeJS?: Repetition of Assignments

Describe your suggestion

In the Assignments section there is a little repetition:

  • In 1, it states that we should Read through at least the first two articles which makes sense, then goes on to say The other two are interesting and worth reviewing, but less relevant to our immediate concerns. However, the third article was already one of the Assignments in the previous lesson Introduction to Frameworks. So, I'd suggest either amending this to say Only read through the first two articles and removing the final sentence OR amending the final sentence to say The final article about Website Security is interesting and worth reviewing, but less relevant to our immediate concerns.
  • The video suggested in 3, is also suggested in the article in 2 , so instead of making these two separate assignments, I'd suggest simply bringing them together and adding a reminder not to skip the video in the article in 2, e.g. To gain a little more insight into the nature of Node, and to unpack the rest of the above definition, read this article about NodeJS. Don't forget to watch the long, but really fantastic video about event loops, that you may remember from an earlier part of the course. Perhaps we can also keep the link to the video for ease of access.

Hello @Meltasy and thank you for raising this issue.

I'm going to ping our @TheOdinProject/javascript team to get their opinions on how to proceed here.

Hi, could I be assigned to work on this issue?

michellecaii avatar Mar 20 '25 19:03 michellecaii

Hi @michellecaii, I've ticked the box above to say that I would like to work on this issue, and because I raised the issue it means that I'll have it assigned to me if the official people decide they want the change made. It's great that you're enthusastic and looking for issues to be assigned, but do check whether whoever raised the issue asked to be assigned to it. Have a lovely day :-)

Just wanted to check if the TOP team have had time to discuss this issue and/or whether it's related to the Node revamp and so will become redundant in the near future? Thanks and have a lovely day :-)

Hi, thanks for the heads up! I'm sorry about that.

This issue is stale because it has had no activity for the last 30 days.

Just wanted to check if the TOP team have had time to discuss this issue and/or whether it should be given the Project Node Revamp label, or just closed? Also, if you need someone to help with the Project Node Revamp, I'd be more than happy to help ... I've just finished the Node course, so am fresh and full of ideas :-)

Thanks @Meltasy I think the following changes make sense:

  1. In assignment 1, remove the last sentence.
  2. Remove assignment 3 and instead add to assignment 2 something like:

Make sure to rewatch the really good video about event loops at the end, which you may remember from an earlier part of the course!
