Introduction to the Back End: Update Knowledge Check to ask questions

Open Meltasy opened this issue 9 months ago • 6 comments

Checks

Describe your suggestion

In the Knowledge Check section, question 3 is written as a statement. To follow the style of TOP materials, I'd suggest making it a question, e.g. What are the different parts of the backend? OR What do we call the different parts of the backend?

Also, throughout the lesson backend is written in two different ways: back-end and backend. I'd be happy to make this uniform, by using only one or the other throughout, unless you think it's better to ensure students are used to seeing different styles, as is common in the real world anyway.

I just realised that the same question above will also apply to the way frontend / front-end is written.

Grammar-wise, when used as an adjective they should be hyphenated e.g. "back-end framework" and "front-end development". Otherwise they should be two separate words e.g. "A framework for the back end" and "they work on the front end".

That being said, I've seen all over the place the single word "backend"/"frontend" used instead of the split.

I'd propose (for the team's decision ofc) that adjectives be kept hyphenated and that one of single or split words be used otherwise. Perhaps given the split words in the lesson title, splitting in the lesson contents should be preferred?

Just wanted to check if the TOP team have had time to discuss this issue and/or whether it's related to the Node revamp and so will become redundant in the near future? Thanks and have a lovely day :-)

Just wanted to check if the TOP team have had time to discuss this issue and/or whether it should be given the Project Node Revamp label, or just closed? Also, if you need someone to help with the Project Node Revamp, I'd be more than happy to help ... I've just finished the Node course, so am fresh and full of ideas :-)

Thanks Mao, I've raised pull request #30072 for this issue and for the similar issue in Intro to Frameworks. Let me know if you want me to make any further changes. Have a lovely day :-)
