Adding to SkyDNS from within the VM

Is the etcd service open to the VM? I'd like to implement DNS to the docker containers, which I can do with docker containers, but this got me thinking since you are using SkyDNS/etcd already: https://memz.co/service-discovery-microservices-skydns-docker/
