Windows Search extremely laggy after migration

We've found a likely workaround:

Specifically the top comment from girofox

@standonutfan, thanks for this, we are registering windows AppxPackages when the user first logs in which, historically was necessary for the search and start menus to even show up. There was at least one windows update that broke start menus for migrations on certain versions of windows last month. Seems like there's a lot of development or changes happening on the latest update channel.

For a device that you are experiencing this issue with can you tell me the Windows specifications ex: Edition: Windows 11 Pro Version: 24H2 OS Build: 26100.3323 Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.54.0

It's totally possible for us to add those two suggestions to our UWP app (the screen with the JumpCloud logo that you see when you fist sign into the migrated account). I just want to get a bit more information because I'm not seeing it in my testing (on a 24H2 Windows 11 device).

For what it's worth, we are getting the list of AppxPackages installed to the domain user with the ADMU and when that migrated user first logs in the UWP app, runs Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "eachApplicationPath.xml" for each app that was found.

Looking at my logs I'm not seeing client.CSB and client.WebExperienceHost apps registered to the new user. We can add an additional line of work to reset those apps, if they are implicitly installed for all users.

So two requests:

  1. Can you provide me with the details of the windows system that seems to be affected?
  2. Can you tell me whether or not the logs for AppxPackages C:\Users\migrated.user\AppData\Local\JumpCloudADMU\appx_statusLog.txt contains an entry for *Client.CBS* or *Client.WebExperienceHost *?

Checking in @standonutfan can you provide any updates, did search start to work again after re-indexing? I haven't been able to reproduce the issue.

Hey Joe,

Sorry I don't have a device in my hands right now. It happened to at least half of the Windows machines we had migrated using this tool, for our Auger tenant. I believe they were all already running 24H2 but I can't be sure about the other details.

Thank you,

I'm going to close this issue out, I've been checking on migrations since then and I have seen that the client.CSB and client.WebExperienceHost apps have been registered on first login. Looks like we had an issue with these registering a while back but I haven't heard chatter about this since the v2.8.4 release which did include some changes that should have addressed the first-login app registering UWP applications.
