Extension to download data in excel not working in CHINA and JAPAN

Open LauraDeFelice opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

Tableau version: 2019.4.7

Chinese and Japanese users in our company are no longer able to use the extension to download data in excel: by clicking on "export all" on our published dashboards, the excel file that they download is completely empty (only the titles of the metrics show up, no data). This issue seems to happen only in China and Japan, so maybe it's linked to language encoding? The export works for me and my colleagues in Italy.

Tableau version: 2020.1.2

Users in Latin America are experiencing issues when using the extension to export data from the visualizations into an Excel file. The users report there are columns missing in the Excel file once the data has been exported. We are unable to recreate this on our end. We have not had similar issues with any clients outside of Latin America.

I had a similar issue but found a workaround. It appears to be to do with the users Locale setting in Tableau server. If set to 'unspecified' it will use the users own Locale. There is then a bug in the Export-all extension that prevents some Locales from showing the data. As a workaround I forced the Locale to be English (United Kingdom) for each user in tableau server. Changing this can have an impact on how numbers and dates are shown so you'll need to check the presentation of the data after you have changed the setting. It will also change all the other workbooks that the user has access too. Hopefully the bug can be fixed.
