Unique names for Water Bottles

Open Faalagorn opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

Split from #223 and #251 reintroduced partially as #287, originally introduced in https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/24011-minor-correction-to-item-names-in-txt-files/&tab=comments#comment-272982 – similar changes are already there in PL, RU and UA translations.

This came up in some translation work years ago (even predating the linked thread), and the consensus back then was that water bottles appearing together in inventory was preferable to reading out which specific container it was in in the case of water bottles.

Has this since changed and are there discussions on the forums/Discord where this has been discussed that I might have missed?

Hm, might have missed that one, I think I had conversation about it with @geras-PL but I might be mistaken now; I remember seeing comments how Empty bottles having different weights are confusing and how grouping items makes item harder to find, but I don't have sources at hand; I'll take a look and post if I find any though. I know there are rename mods too, but these are mostly aimed at sorting things, since there's only sorting by name and type currently implemented in game (searching items like in debug item list would be nice too), but the changes they implement are out of scope of this for now.

It seems that as of 569c865bd212233013c19ce08a5c925beb47032f Chinese also use different names for water/empty bottles :)

I also made a forum post about it here: https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34297-should-empty-bottle-and-water-bottle-be-separate-for-each-item/
