Seems it's not working on macOS 10.12.

This works for me on 10.12.6! With one small issue:

There is an issue that I've yet to resolve. Every time that you press the play media key, iTunes is launched. If it has media, this will play. For now, I've removed all media from iTunes. This means that iTunes is still launched, but it doesn't play anything. So long as you are happy with iTunes running in the background, this works.

@TheFox Got any ideas?

I can confirm that on the first install, cmus-control worked fine. After a reboot it no longer works.

There is something wrong on macOS 10.12. I have to figure what's wrong.

@olorton Please read my blog post carefully: https://blog.fox21.at/2015/11/20/control-cmus-with-media-keys.html

My best solution so far is to first use https://github.com/thebitguru/play-button-itunes-patch. Which disables iTunes activating with the play media key.

The cmus control service does stop working after restarting your machine. So I just aliased brew services restart cmus-control and run that whenever I want cmus media controls handy. 😄
