pCloud app will not run with AppImageLauncher installed on system (Debian 13)
Pre-submit checks
- [x] I checked for similar issues beforehand, but could not find any, not even closed ones. I could not add my bug report to any existing issue.
- [x] I am going to take the time to to fill in all the required details. I know that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.
Describe the bug
The pCloud app (www.pcloud.com) will not run while the AppImageLauncher is installed on my system. The app starts, then does nothing. Running the app from the command line, I get the following error:
"qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "wayland" in "" Using TARGET_APPIMAGE /home/***/Applications/pcloud_97b979aec321bdcf0247e9c5c60f4579"
Removing AppImageLauncher (i.e. apt remove) allows pCloud to run normally again.
Expected behavior
AppImageLauncher should (hopefully) integrate and run the pCloud app just like any other appimage application.
Steps to reproduce the issue
- make sure AppImageLauncher is installed
- use AppImageLauncher to integrate the pcloud app downloaded from their website
- app launch appears to do nothing
- run ./pcloud from cli
- get error listed above

I'm having the exact same issue on Arch, Gnome. Pcloud appimage does not start when using either "Integrate" or "Run" options of Appimage launcher. If I uninstall Appimage Launcher the Pcloud app image works perfectly
I only get:
Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to run on Wayland anyway. Using TARGET_APPIMAGE /home/***/Applications/pcloud_3a9066375d1af32211a2fa8a5ed4793b
If I set QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland, then I indeed get the same error as you.
Regardless, pcloud won't start with AppImageLauncher3.0.0-beta-2. I had to downgrade back to the 2.2.0 release for it to run.
Please let me know if you need more info. I'm on Ubuntu 24.04.

What versions have you tested?
Hi, I have the same issue as matt-derrick, using appimagelauncher_3.0.0-beta-2-gha280.e110527_amd64.deb with Debian 13, KDE Plasma 6.3.6, Wayland.
I tried it with pCloud versions 1.14.17 and 1.14.18.
The same issue with appimagelauncher_3.0.0-beta-2-gha287.96cb937_amd64.deb and pCloud 1.14.18...
I have the same issue. Debian 13, KDE desktop environment, using appimagelauncher_3.0.0-beta-2-gha287.96cb937_amd64.deb. When I try to open pCloud via this version of AppImageLauncher in a terminal, the following is printed:
qt.qpa. plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "wayland" in ""
Using TARGET_APPIMAGE /home/dennishb/Downloads/pcloud.AppImage
And nothing happens - no app is started, and nothing containing "pCloud" appears in the system monitor. I could install obsidian and Flameshot, and use them without problem, but for pCloud it fails. Given that the appimage launches just fine when I use appimagelauncher_2.2.0-travis995.0f91801.bionic_amd64.deb instead, this must be a problem with the latest beta release of AppImageLauncher.
Same problem with:
- appimagelauncher_3.0.0-beta-2-gha287.96cb937_amd64
- pcloud (1.14.18)
- Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1
Back to Appimagelauncher 2.2.0
