Can end up starting game with no starting equipment if game closed at the wrong time

Steps to reproduce:

• Start a game for a character and episode that gets a prompt to choose a set of equipment. For instance, choose the Thief and episode six.
• Close the game (or, have your phone run out of battery, or similar).
• Reopen the game, and hit "play".
• You'll get a prompt to resume the game in progress, with the character you chose on level 1.
• If you resume that game, you'll start with no equipment.

Ideally, either this game should resume to the "pick a set of equipment" prompt, or it shouldn't be saved as a "game in progress". The latter seems like it might be easier since it doesn't need a new resume path.
