Volume locked
Before submitting a new icon request, please confirm the following:
- [x] I have searched all issues to make sure there isn't a request for this icon.
- [x] I have searched the current library to make sure the icon doesn't already exist.
- [x] I understand that brand icons are no longer being added and I can use SimpleIcons for my brand icon needs.
- [x] I only intend to request a single icon (or a few near-identical ones) in this issue.
What would you use this icon for?
To indicate when the volume of a certain device is locked.
Give us an example of what this icon might look like.
A mix of the volume sign of:
With the lock icon of:
Absolutely great!
@jmb do you mind if I use these icons in my application already?
Of course you can. I don't know if the svg files are 100% correct for mdi, but they should work for you.
I'd like to provide an alternative that has the lock in the corner of the shape (like most other lock icons) and has a small overlap. I think it's more visually clear that it's a single icon - a volume icon variant - rather than 2 separate icons that are very close.
Maybe the two variants can be added. However, the reason why I don't like the latter is because all other volume variants do not follow that style. They instead follow the first style, despite most other icons follow the latter style.
And design wise, I think the former looks better.
Maybe a different volume icon can be built to better accommodate the second style, too.
I also had this thought but went with the style that matches other volume icons so that the speaker remains constant. There are also other icons in a with the lock in a different position - pen-lock and axis-lock - so there is a precedent.
The speaker is in the exact same place, so that's not a valid argument. Other than that I agree, the other volume icons have additions to their right, so use what you prefer. Personally I think that the lock variant is different enough in semantics to warrant a different position of the modifier, but in the end it's just my opinion. Have a nice day!
By any chance, do you know any tool that is similar to the Advanced PNG Export of the Pictogrammers website?
I don't know anything about image editing, and I was able to generate the perfect icon with that tool very easily.
But it's only available for published icons... I also wrote this feature request:
Never mind, I was able to use Copilot to edit the SVG directly:
Just a nitpick, @jmb, the lock-open variant is slightly misaligned with the lock one:

I found this great website: https://yqnn.github.io/svg-path-editor/
And I was able to fix the misalignment myself by converting to relative. Thanks a lot!
@jmb thanks a lot, I released a new version of my app with the icon you built, and I attributed you in the README.
