User retention visualization: show relative % drop month-over-month

Open DivineDominion opened this issue 1 year ago • 0 comments

From today's webinar, the user retention columns in the demo looked cool.

The example was more or less like this:

Sept 2023 Oct Nov Dec ...
100% 56% 39% 26% ...

The drop from 100 to 56 was quite easily summarized: about half of the people dropped off.

And the long tail was more or less stable.

But the drop from 56 to 39 or whatever is not quite half, and I noticed that it was not as easy to summarize in words how many that were :)

I would struggle in my day to day looking-at-graphs as well! I'd love to have the tool calculate this for me. 39% are absolute, right? So 39% of the original September cohort are still active in November. But how many users from October are active in November? From 56% to 39% would be 69% if I don't mess this up, so that'd be cool. ("Don't make me think" UX etc.)
