Telegram share link opens Telegram website instead of the app

Open cappster opened this issue 9 months ago • 1 comments

Some users have reported that when they attempt to open the Telegram share link (https://t.me/share?text=) from my app, instead of opening the Telegram app directly, their system opens Safari with the URL https://telegram.org.

I attempted to reproduce this behaviour but was unable to. However, users continue to report the issue. I also tried using one of the user's Telegram share links, but the behaviour remains inconsistent.

Steps to Reproduce (as reported by users):

  • Install the Telegram app on an iOS device.
  • Open my app.
  • Click on the link https://t.me/share?text=test.
  • Instead of opening the Telegram app, the system opens Safari with https://telegram.org.
  • Expected Behavior:
  • Clicking on the link should directly open the Telegram app and prefill the message with "test".

Actual Behavior: Safari opens with https://telegram.org instead of launching the Telegram app.

Questions:

  • Could this be an issue with how iOS handles universal links for Telegram?
  • Are there known cases where https://t.me/share does not properly deep-link to the app?
  • Are there alternative deep link formats that should be used instead?
