App doesn't open in macOS 26 Beta 8+

Open Batu-U opened this issue 3 months ago • 17 comments

When the app is opened, a malware error is given and the app is unable to open. (Already tried to disable gatekeeper).

Have you tried overriding the malware protection? If not, right click the app then press get info and tick override malware protection. This worked for me

I'm having the same issue. Whenever I try to open the app, it just says malware and deletes the app from Applications

same here as well.

quarantining doesnt work either, nor does enabling "Anywhere"

seems like the only way might be disabling SIP

To open the Tahoe build, you need to do a few steps:

  • Strip the quarantine flags: xattr -c /Applications/WinDiskWriter.app
  • Get your signing identity (you need a developer account): security find-identity -p codesigning -v
  • Sign the binary: codesign --sign "Apple Development: Your Name (your team id)" //Applications/WinDiskWriter.app/Contents/MacOS/WinDiskWriter --force

@sx328 Both or these options are not working for me as well. I've been thinking of getting a Apple Developer account lately however I'll be just wasting it as I'm doing with my Google Play account. Not worth 99$ a year for now 😄

A free Apple Developer account is sufficient for codesigning locally, the signature just expires in 7 days

A quick chat with Gemini revealed that no Developer Account is needed. I tried and it actually worked.

Prerequisites:

  • Xcode Command Line Tools

Steps for Ad-Hoc Signing:

  • Sign the executable: Use the codesign command with the --sign - flag. The dash (-) is the key here; it tells codesign to use a self-generated, ad-hoc signature instead of a formal certificate.

    codesign --force --sign - /Applications/WinDiskWriter.app

  • Verify the signature: You can check if the signing was successful by running the following command. The output should confirm that the app has an "ad-hoc" signature.

    codesign --verify --verbose /Applications/WinDiskWriter.app

Hello everyone.

I've uploaded a new WinDiskWriter build for Tahoe to fix the false positive malware detection by Apple. This replaces my previous build with build kindly provided by @Android-Artisan.

Please download the updated file and let me know if the issue is resolved.

Download: WinDiskWriter.v1.3_Tahoe_26.0+.zip

Thank you.

I just downloaded version 1.3 on macOS 26.0 (M4) from https://github.com/TechUnRestricted/WinDiskWriter/releases/download/v1.3/WinDiskWriter.v1.3_Tahoe_26.0+.zip and it works. I get the same dialog as @pqt-dev above, but I opened System Settings and then "Integrity and Security" (translated from Swedish, so might be something else in English). There I had to accept the risk, scroll down to the bottom of the list (Security) and allow it there.

Doesn't work on 26.0.1. I have tried v1.3_Tahoe_26.0 on Intel Mac. I get the same message as @pqt-dev and there is no entry in the settings>security to allow this app.

Hello @tankshield @pqt-dev @timmyofficial!

Apologies for the significant delay in responding. I was unexpectedly in the hospital and was unable to address this sooner. Thank you for your patience.

A new Intel build is now provided which will fix the issue you encountered with the Apple Silicon-only build.

⚠️ For macOS Tahoe 26.0+ users only
