Player picks audio language automatically, and it can't be change anymore

Open shrugal opened this issue 5 months ago • 5 comments

Official Instance

Describe the bug

So these are basically two issues:

  1. If the video has multiple audio languages the player picks the one matching the interface language, and you can't change that behavior in the settings. Very annoying if you watch videos in different languages.
  2. Since an update a few weeks ago you can't even change the audio language in the player anymore, the option just doesn't show up. Only solution is to switch the interface language for every video where that is a problem.

Idk if the 2nd one is reproducible on the official instance, since it doesn't load videos for me at all.

To Reproduce

  1. Open any video with multiple audio languages
  2. The video uses the one matching the interface language, and there's no option to change it

Expected behavior

  1. An option to change the audio language selection behavior in the settings, incl. just using the video's original language
  2. The option to change the audio language in the video player should be brought back

Same issue for me. Does make the Piped useless for many videos.

I'd support both suggestions for expected behavior above.

Is this being worked on? This is very annoying and basically makes piped unusable for more than 50% of the videos.

Edit: sorry for the wording. I hope this can be fixed and appreciate the work you guys are doing!

Same issue for me. I'd really like to use Piped full time, but I can't! If the video has multiple languages, it seems to pick German over any other language. I've tried so many things inside the docker compose.. but I can't get it to force English. As other have said, a solution would be to add language selection back into the player! Thank you, and really appreciate the work you all continue to do!

Especially as google now introduced the wonderful antifeature of automatic "AI" subbing, which essentially means that every single video is now available with a quality so bad even Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville's Phonautograph could only dream of it, I have to switch the interface language every other video.

@FireMasterK @Bnyro Thanks for your great work on Piped! Could you please clarify if there are any plans on fixing the described issue? It's super annoying to have wrong video language and no ability to change that. BTW, in LibreTube it's possible to change audio track of the video - but there is no such option for piped web interface
